Samoa and Tonga Tsunami 2009

29 September
On 29 September 2009 (Samoan time), an 8.1 earthquake and a subsequent tsunami landed on the archipelagos of Samoa, American Samoa and Tonga. Approximately 144 people, including five Australians, were killed, over 300 people were injured and thousands made homeless.
